0.1.1 Residents of Bagi gram panchayat near Shimla have opposed the proposed Jathiya Devi satellite township.

0.1.3 Residents fear displacement and livelihood loss, particularly of agricultural communities.

0.2 About the Project

0.2.1 Conceived in 2014 by the Himachal Pradesh government with central approval.
0.2.2 Proposed location is Jathiya Devi, around 14 km from Shimla.
0.2.3 Objective is to decongest Shimla, create a new economic hub, and promote sustainable, disaster-resilient urban growth.

0.3 Key Features of the Township

0.3.1 Total project area is around 249 hectares, including 35 hectares of government land.
0.3.2 Planned components include residential, commercial, non-polluting industrial zones, and green areas.
0.3.3 Infrastructure includes widened roads, utility services, smart transport, helipad connectivity, and eco-sensitive planning.
0.3.4 River development area of 16.56 hectares is part of the plan.

0.4 Impact of Land Acquisition

0.4.1 Land is to be acquired from eight villages in Bagi gram panchayat and Mamlig tehsil, Solan district.
0.4.2 386 households will be directly affected.
0.4.3 158 households face potential livelihood disruption, as per the Social Impact Assessment (SIA) conducted in November 2025.

0.5 Reasons for Local Opposition

0.5.1 Residents fear loss of fertile agricultural land and ancestral homes.
0.5.2 Villages also house centuries-old social and religious structures.
0.5.3 Locals argue the project prioritises housing for newcomers over people who have lived there for generations.

0.6.1 Residents are uncertain about fair compensation for land and houses.
0.6.2 Families worry about inter-generational land loss affecting future livelihoods.
0.6.3 Authorities have stated compensation will be based on current land prices and collector rates.
